MDRC NEWS LETTER

January 2007

Dear MDRC Member:

 

I hope all of you had a great holiday season and are on your way to having a very prosperous New Year.  We are looking forward to the New Year at MDRC as we are, once again, planning some interesting events and activities on our continuous move forward at the club.

 

With respect to the range, we plan on constructing a 100-yard target frame.  I know it’s been a long time coming but we will install it ASAP this year.  Also, we are going to spread gravel on the roads, bays and other strategic shooting areas as soon as the weather permits and this will go a long way in improving the looks and effectiveness of the range.  Other projects include fixing the fireplace and installing new lights in classroom and installing gutters and down spouts across the front of the indoor range.

 

The other change that the board decided to implement is to leave the current membership dues at $140 per year.  Since we are putting the clubhouse project on hold, we decided to leave the dues at the current level for further evaluation.  The initiation fee for new members will remain the same.

 

This year, MDRC is planning to host the West Virginia State IDPA championship.  Details are incomplete at this time but we are tentatively planning for Thursday July 26 through Monday July 30.  Further details will be included in the March newsletter.  We do expect the range to be closed for several days for this event and you will all notified of the dates.  We will also need members to volunteer time to work the match, helps with set-up and tear down.  This time would count as a work detail.  If anyone is interested in helping with the state match, please contact me at 864-2506 for further details.

 

The club will also be sponsoring an open house on Saturday July 9 with a display of all our shooting disciplines.  This purpose of this event is to generate new members through our existing membership.  The event will be open to all members and their guest to come out, see the range and try some of the various shooting events that we have.  Every member that sponsors a new member will be eligible for drawing for a free membership next year.  Another drawing will be held for the member that sponsors the most new members.  I think this will be a very educational day for all and I am sure a good time will be had by all.

 

This year, the FIRST membership renewal meeting will be held Saturday, February 24th from 3:00pm till 6:00pm at the club.  The SECOND meeting will be held Saturday, March 3 at the MDRC annual dinner from 3:30pm until 5:00pm at the Wolf’s family restaurant.  If you are interested in attending the annual dinner, please fill out the attached reservation sheet and send it in per attached instruction.  Also, attached is the MDRC yearly event schedule that covers all activities, as of this date, for calendar 2007.  Any other range activities that come up during the year will be announced in the quarterly newsletter prior to the initiation of the event.

 

So in closing I would like to say that I hope everyone is looking forward to a new shooting season and range accomplishments.  The range continues to improve as we planned but as usual we need your help and your cooperation.  So please continue to pick-up targets, brass and anything you find that does belong on the range.  Leave the range in a better condition than it was when you came, take care of the target frames and our club will remain in good order for a long a time.  Also please continue to make sure that your targets have a proper background and impact area.  We do not want rounds skimming off the surface.  Also, we have two rifle ranges, two pistol ranges and a shotgun range.  Please use each for it’s designated purpose, which means, rifles on the rifle ranges, pistols on the pistol ranges and clays in the shotgun area.

 

Having said that, shoot often, shoot straight and be safe.
